NPS is committed to School Wellness - That environment in which every child can access good nutrition and regular physical activity
Kansas School Wellness Policy Model Guidelines are divided into four categories
• Nutrition
• Nutrition Promotion and Education
• Physical Activity
• Integrated School Based Wellness
Nativity Parish School is working toward implementing, transitioning and finally modeling all of these highly effective practices.
NPS is proud of our Wellness Program!
Bethlehem Cafe - The Nativity Parish School Cafeteria provides healthy meals prepared on site. There is usually a hot entre, and sandwich entre and a salad bar. Students have a choice of fresh fruit or vegetable daily. The menu is posted monthly and students may order daily.
Physical Education - All students will be given the opportunity to learn new and exciting ways to take what they learn about healthy and physical activity outside the classroom and apply it to their lives in other ways. Each P.E. class contains cardiovascular activity, calisthenics and stretching. The students wear pedometers in class with a goal of getting to 1000 steps.
Recess - All students have recess daily (outdoors unless weather prohibits it) to engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity. This allows them to focus better in the classroom.
Classroom - Students learn how the body works in classroom activities.
One highlight to show this is Nutrition and Life Science which is an important part of 4th grade. The students also learn about My Plate which includes the healthy choices the government recommends. They learn about food labels and making healthy choices. They get to put their learning to the test by working with Ms. Post in the cafeteria and giving her recommendations for lunch ideas.
One of our newest additions are garden towers in our 4th grade classrooms. Students have planted seeds and are learning about many elements of growing healthy vegetables. They have made a salad bar and salad dressing with the produce they have grown and served it to their fellow students!
